It is GLHF's hope that these enrichment courses will help to prepare students for the college experience and in turn succeed in their selected program and career path. The College Bound Scholarship combines with other state financial aid to cover the average tuition (at public rates to eligible Washington state institutions), some fees, and a small book allowance for income-eligible students who sign up no later than eighth grade, work hard in school, remain a good citizen and successfully apply to a higher education institution when they graduate. The College Bound Scholarship Program is designed to financially assist qualified applicants in obtaining degrees from accredited academic institutions of higher learning. Each spring eligible students may apply for an award up to $20,000 to be used towards the direct costs (tuition, room board) and indirect costs (personal expenses, books, and transportation) for higher education. Special scholarships funded by individual donors or corporations may identify specific criteria. Additionally, CollegeBound funds the need-based Last Dollar Grant program that supports up to 75 Baltimore City public high school graduates annually for up to six years of college. The College Bound Scholarship is designed to inspire and encourage Washington middle school students from low-income families to prepare for and pursue postsecondary education.
